Parlava di amore, lei. Di tutti i momenti in cui poteva essere e non è stato.

Ma le storie d’amore nascono quando il caso diventa destino.

Vogliamo immaginare che anche tu, come noi, ami l’Europa. Magari è stato il caso a far sì che tu oggi sieda presso le istituzione Europee o la conseguenza di equilibri politici o di un percorso di carriera. O forse era il tuo sogno.

Di certo il caso ti ha posto oggi nella condizione di prendere una decisione storica.

Vogliamo immaginare che tu sia oggi nella stessa condizione che il caso ha posto il 24 Agosto 1953 i tuoi predecessori (di Belgio, Canada, Ceylon, Danimarca, Grecia, Iran, Irlanda, Italia, Liechtenstein, Lussemburgo, Norvegia, Pakistan, Gran Bretagna, Francia, Spagna, USA, Svezia, Svizzera, Sudafrica e Jugoslavia), che hanno deciso di dimezzare il debito della Germania (pari al 100% del Pil) e a confermare la stessa decisone dopo l’unificazione delle 2 Germanie nel 1990.

Quelle sono state scelte giuste. Cosa sarebbe stato dell’Europa se avessero scelto il contrario? Come la Storia ricorderebbe quei leader e quei Parlamenti? Avremmo avuto 70 anni di stabilità e di progresso economico e sociale? Ci sarebbe ancora l’Europa?

Oggi tu sei chiamato dalla Storia a prendere una decisione fondamentale per il futuro dell’Europa e dei suoi popoli. Magari è un caso che tu sia lì, ma questo caso sta per trasformarsi in destino. Fai la scelta giusta, ora. Nelle tue mani hai l’occasione di rafforzare l’Europa: la Storia se lo ricorderà.

Figli che studiano in altri Paesi Europei. Noi siamo Europei e vogliamo che l’Europa esista ancora.

to become their Destiny " wrote the Polish Nobel prize poet Wislawa Szymborska.

She was talking about love. About all the moments in which it could have been and was not.
But love stories are born when chance becomes destiny.
We wish to imagine that you love Europe too, as we do. Maybe it was the case that made you today part of the European Institutions. The consequence of political balance, a career path or maybe it was your dream.
And always chance has put you in a position to take a historic decision.
I wish to imagine that you are today in the same condition that placed on August 24, 1953 your predecessors from Belgium, Canada, Ceylon, Denmark, Greece, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Pakistan, United Kingdom, France, Spain, USA, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa and Yugoslavia, which have decided to halve Germany's debt (equal to 100% of GDP) and to confirm the same decision after the unification of the 2 Germanies in 1990.
Those were the  right choices. What would have become Europe if they had chosen the opposite? How would history remember those leaders and parliaments? Would we have had 70 years of stability and economic and social progress? Would there still be Europe?
Today you are called by history to take a fundamental decision for the future of Europe.

Maybe it's a coincidence that you're there, but this case is about to turn into destiny. Make the right choice now. In your hands you have the opportunity to strengthen Europe: history will remember.
