A formal apology to the European Parliament for the behaviour of Nigel Farage MEP.

A formal apology to the European Parliament for the behaviour of Nigel Farage MEP.

The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, wish to formally apologise to members of the European Parliament for the behaviour of Mr. Nigel Paul Farage MEP.

During a European Parliamentary session held on June 28th, 2016, Mr. Farage made a speech on the back of the June 23rd Referendum to leave or remain part of the European Union.  In doing so he spoke in a manner suggestive of being a representative for the entire United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

His speech was not representative of the 62.58% of the eligible UK electorate who did not vote in favour of leaving the European Union - including the nations of Scotland and Northern Ireland, both of which expressed majority desires to remain within the European Union.

His speech was also most likely not representative of a proportion of the 37.42% of the eligible UK electorate who did vote in favour of leaving the European Union or the remaining 27.4% of the UK populace not eligible to participate in the June 23rd Referendum who will be affected by its outcome regardless.

As Mr. Farage was returned as MEP for the South East Region of England, which he has represented since 1999, he may only claim to represent that Region of England, and is in no elected capacity a spokesperson for the entirety of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

As such, Mr. Farage’s speech was without justification or authority - but is sadly indicative of the nature and character of many who profess to represent similar political ideologies - and, in light of such, it may be appropriate to disqualify Mr. Farage as a Member of the European Parliament for exceeding any authority he believes he has forthwith - a matter for the European Parliament to decide in due course.

Regardless of the matter of authority, it is the feeling of all who have signed below that an apology should be issued to all who experienced Mr. Farage’s behaviour during the European Parliamentary session of June 28th, 2016.  It was behaviour unbecoming of a mature adult or an elected politician, and we are extremely sorry that you bore witness to it.
