Spawning more objections than bone fide supporters, the KED scheme is being fought on many fronts which is the only way to outmanoeuvre the vested, monied interests doing everything in their power to make us all pay for their enrichment. .
One of the most promising is a new legal challenge filed by Minnow Lake Restoration Group (MLRG) on August 13, 2021 which we are supporting financially and we encourage you to contribute what you can too. It has the potential to entirely derail or delay the KED scheme until the next election.
To be clear, Patrick, Hazel and Art (we're the folks behind the petition) are not organizing this legal action though we support its goals thoroughly and trust the integrity of the people behind it.

Here is some detailed information from the Minnow Lake Restoration Group (MLRG) about the legal action:
Eric Gillespie (a successful litigator in municipal law) acting on behalf of MLRG has indicated the City of Greater Sudbury has been served with the court application. The application filed in Ontario Divisional Court states that ‘resolution of Council July 14, 2021, pertaining to the Greater Sudbury Events Centre is of no force and effect’ - or null and void. This case is to be heard at the earliest convenience of the court as its schedule allows.
The Judicial Review (a panel of three judges) will consider where the Mayor, Council and Senior Staff made numerous errors of law related to: procedural fairness, limiting discussions and questions; disclosure of relevant and material information; misleading statements; proceeding hastily; proceeding unreasonably, or reaching a fair conclusion; proceeding with a lack of candour, frankness and impartiality, including arbitrary and unfair conduct; proceeding without the proper degree of fairness, openness and impartiality.
All donors to MLRG are confidential. Donors receive a charitable tax receipt.

Thanks for your support of the Stop the KED petition and our fellow citizens fighting this incredible boondoggle. Please encourage others to do the same. The potentially bright future of our city is in jeopardy from self-interested charlatans and their foolish followers.
This is more than a local planning issue. We need to act now even in these little ways to plan for the future responsibly, protect the environment, heal divisions and behave with decency to each other which includes the homeless. Turning our back on them - which is a big part of the KED appeal - will not make the tragedy of homelessness go away.
