Restrict rat-running traffic on Ham Park Road & Margery Park E7 Road - Forest Gate South

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Ham Park road, Margery Park road, and local residents, call upon the council and its dedicated bodies to review and take urgent action on the increasingly escalating rat running and cut-through traffic on Ham Park Road and Margery Park Road.

In the past 6 months, we have collectively seen and lived through a steadily increasing number of vehicles using this cut-through across our residential streets, from large lorries, speeding cars to construction vehicles without any respect for speed bumps or speed limits. One of the residents on this petition has manually counted 400 cars passing through this route in a single hour.  Highlighting the concerning volume of cut-through traffic via this primarily residential route directly in front of one of the primary entrances to West Ham Park the Margery Park Gate.

This overall increase in cut-through traffic is endangering the wellbeing and livability of our area.  Accessing West Ham Park as a pedestrian or cyclist is difficult with the increased car and noise pollution. Additionally, we witness an abundance of cars idling on Ham Park Road contributing to additional air pollution and anti-social behavior.

We kindly ask the council to seriously consider and prioritize taking action in changing the flow of traffic by adding additional signage to restrict cut-through traffic and add this area as one of the next prioritized Low traffic neighborhood zones in Newham.

Signed by residents of Ham Park Road, Margery Park Road, and local residents.
