أبراج الكويت رمز وطني و معلم عرف على مستوى الشرق الأوسط و حاز على صفة العالمية من حيث الإبداع في مجال الهندسة و العمارة التي تمثل حقبة القرن العشرين.

تمثل أبراج الكويت فترة الحداثة في الكويت, ذلك العصر الذهبي الذي احتفى بالحياة و التغيير و الإبداع الهندسي و المعماري كما ترمز للدولة و المجتمع ذو الهوية المنفتحة و المتقبلة للآخر والتي عبرعنها بإستخدام تكنولوجيا غربية لتحقيق احتياجات محلية.

يرى مركز التراث العالمي امتلاك أبراج الكويت للقيمة العالمية الإستثنائية التي تؤهله لتكون تراثا عالميا على قائمة التراث العالمي.  ولهذا تمت الموافقة على إدراج الأبراج على القائمة التمهيدية. لكن في حال تم تجديد الأبراج من الداخل دون مراعاة متطلبات التراث العالمي لإعادة التأهيل، ستفقد الكويت فرصتها للحفاظ على إرثها بسبب خسارتها لعنصر الأصالة. علما بأن الكويت هي الدولة الخليجية الوحيدة التي لا تمتلك معلم تراثي عالمي. من الأمثلة على المعالم من دول الخليج العربي: مدينة الزبارة التي تقع في قطر وقلعة البحرين و جدة التاريخية (بوابة مكة) في المملكة العربية السعودية.

Abraj Al-Kuwait represents an outstanding universal value and creative
contribution to twenty-century architecture, not only for Kuwait and
the Middle East, but also for architecture as a whole. As a symbol of
Kuwait's modernization, Abraj Al-Kuwait celebrates life and change,
design creativity and engineering, in its pure form. It is the symbol
of Kuwait as a country and a society that exhibits openness to other
cultures as well as eagerness to achieve its ambition through western
technological advancement.
The World Heritage Center acknowledges the value of Kuwait Towers and
approved the tentative list submission.  Should the new interior
renovations continue, any form of opportunity Kuwait had to protect
our heritage will be non applicable and disregarded due to the loss of
authenticity.

Kuwait is the only GCC country that does not have a World Heritage
property.  A few examples of properties in the Gulf would be, the Al
Zubarah Archeological Site in Qatar, Qal’at Al-Bahrain (Ancient
Harbour and Capital of Dilum) in Bahrain, or Historic Jeddah (the Gate
to Mekkah), one of the 3 World Heritage properties in Saudi Arabia.
