Barnet Council has decided in a review of Barnet leisure facilities that Church Farm Swimming Pool has reached the end of its life.

It is proposed that a new leisure centre be built on a larger site in the area and Church Farm Leisure Centre in Burlington Rise will therefore close in 2017.

It is therefore likely that the present swimming pool is likely to be demolished and the land sold – presumably for housing.

The Church Farm area is the oldest part of Barnet with a Norman church and Victorian swimming pool, cottages and school building.

It was quickly apparent that local people had not been kept abreast of development..

1 Barnet Council should have given local people information about proposals and developments to the swimming pool site.

2 Barnet Council should be sensitive to the history of the whole Church Farm site when making proposals about the future of the swimming pool site.

3 Barnet Council should keep local people informed and consult them about future plans and developments to the swimming pool site.
