The Canadian boreal forest is under severe threat from industrial logging operations.  Much of this logging goes to feed global demand for tissue pulp used in toilet paper.  We have created a dangerous “tree-to-toilet pipeline” where trees are cut down for pulp, then turned into toilet paper, and then flushed away. Fortunately, alternatives to the “tree-to-toilet pipeline” already exist.  Toilet paper made from recycled materials are far more sustainable because they do not rely on clearcutting forests.

As consumers concerned about our environment, we were upset to learn that most toilet paper being sold at Costco is not made from recycled fibres.  Furthermore, most of the toilet paper is packaged in plastic, with each roll also individually wrapped in plastic.  This single use plastic is destroying our planet in so many ways and we need to move away from using it.  It seems that only one brand of toilet paper sold at Costco is made from recycled paper and is wrapped in paper and sold in a cardboard box – Cascades Pro Select.

However, Cascades Pro Select toilet paper is only sold on your website, it is not sold in stores.  This means that most customers do not even know that it is an option.  We would like to see that change.  We are writing to you today to ask that you start to sell Cascades Pro Select in stores so that you can encourage more customers to purchase this option that is much better for our environment.

Now, more than ever, we need to protect our remaining forests.  We are asking you to move quickly on this to ensure that the products you sell don’t come at the cost of our planet.
