The City of Brantford together with the GRCA have neglected to complete a section of the dike located in Holmedale, Brantford.  The gap was created to allow a section of railway to traverse the dike, and temporary barricading equipment was provided to complete this section of the dike should high river flows become a risk.

These rails were removed several years ago, and so far both the City and GRCA have neglected to fill in this gap in protection, and recently neglected to complete the barricade when flood conditions were expected due to ice jams upstream along with heavy rain. This resulted in flooding in Holmedale which could and should have been prevented.

We ask that the City of Brantford and the GRCA come together to ensure a structurally sound and permanent solution to this gap in the dike be put in place as soon as feasible, permanently removing the risk of flooding and completing the dike system along the Grand River through downtown Brantford.
