Protect Newquay Clifftops From Over Development

Protect Newquay Clifftops From Over Development
The Issue
Hello lovely people of Newquay and those beyond who have an interest!
I have taken some time over wether I should post this, thing is last time in 2012 if more people had know then maybe just maybe a precedent would not have been set so hopefully with nothing to loose and hopefully support to be given......
Here goes..............
I am hoping that you will support the objections below on the recently submitted planning applications:
Site address 20 Island crescent.
PA15/11914 and PA15/11915 These applications are for dwellings to build at Island crescent, one for the front of and one to the rear.
This site is within a ‘Designated Area of Special Character and Area of Architectural and Historic Value.”
It is a cliff top location, prominent when viewed from the beaches and various vantage points along the coastline from across the bay at the headland near Huers Hut, the hill rolling down from the car park by the bowling green/Belushis Bar, as you come from Killacourt towards island crescent and even the Barrowfields. The sea view as you come from Bridge road by the post office will also be lost.
Both applications do not consider the importance of retaining the natural coastal fringe, I would question how deeply the issue of erosion and impact of building such vast developments so close to the cliff edge.
These applications will impact the local and natural beauty, yes there has been a precedent set by the approval at committee of PA12/06740 ( where the new PA15/1195 app is for)for a dwelling, maybe if we had highlighted more and were able to gain more local support then maybe this would not have been approved.
The important issues here are to protect Newquay and the site classed as an Area of Special Character.
So I ask that you could support by objecting with the intention to:
1. Protect the area of Special Character.
2. Protect the area of Architectural and Historic Value.
3.Protect the area against further precedents on allowing for cliff top developments.
4. Protect the cliffs from over development, risk of landfall, protect the cliffs greenery and wildlife.
This cliff edge as it flows down to the beach and the top perimeter has immense and somewhat unique greenery compared to many of our local cliffs, including wildlife which needs us to protect it.
Could this development due to its huge impact of size and required vast excavation require cliff stabalisation ? ( a kin to that at Great Western underneath the factory shop and gym?)
5. Prevent “garden grabbing” to protect the land from being “crammed and over developed.”
6. The designs are
a) Overbearing due to proximity to the cliff, the size and height.
b) not in keeping, in appearance and using flat roofs to attract seagulls.
c) Creating a negative impact with loss of the sea views, much appreciated by locals and tourists alike. Losing completely the sea view from Bridge road towards Trebarwith.
7. These proposed properties are not inkeeping with the distinctly attractive house that lies on the land. (20 By the sea) which in a previous design and Access statement quotes as “setting the bar high in standard of architectural design.”
8. The access would put extra strain on traffic flow at the bend in the road on Island crescent which will also have added traffic due to applications PA12/04313 and PA13/08528 (former Penhallow) and
on island crescent.
I do hope that you will give the the time to consider the impact of this and I do hope you will support this and protect the local beauty.
If we don't act now the I am sure we will see further development proposals on the sites which are currently on the market which are Skerryvore, Island Crescent and Trebarwith Hotel site on Trebarwith Crescent. Its time to keep our cliff tops protected and safe from development.
Post regarding this are also available on the Facebook group of Newer Newquay.
Currently the closing date for objections 27/01/16 and the local town planning has the front garden development PA15/11914 it on its agenda for tomorrow 18/01/16.
So please comment here with us to show your support of our protection plan or register online at Cornwall Council and go to planning where you will be able to put the application details in PA15/11914 & PA15/11915 and submit your comments.
Many thanks.
