BUT what is really needed now is as many of you as possible to leave objection comments on the Cornwall Council Planning Register… as it is those comments that will REALLY HELP to make an impact at next Monday’s Parish Committee meeting. There are less than 50 comments as I write this – we need hundreds or more – please! So please can we ‘beg’ you to spend 5/10 minutes of your time now to comment and help flood the application with objections - that would be awesome and should help to create an impact. Visual Impact St Agnes Beacon, Headland and Chapel Porth are covered by many special classifications including: - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - World Mining Heritage Site - Site of Special Scientific Interest - Coastal Zone - Dark Skies Zone The existing units can be seen from a number of public views (including public footpaths and bridleways) most notably from St Agnes Beacon. The proposed development would be even more obvious. These “homes” would detrimentally affect this area by the gross infilling of a green space previously never built upon (unlike the existing units that were built partially to replace previous existing units), destroy public amenity and have a huge visual impact on the surrounding area. Access & Highways The narrow minor road to Chapel Porth (owed by the National Trust) is busy all year round and the proposed access on the site is not only dangerous but would increase traffic significantly. The proposed new access is on a bend with very limited visibility and would require removal of a large section of Cornish Hedgerow. Residential Amenity There would be a significant increase of sewage production on the site. There are concerns that as an aquifer with high leaching potential is situated beneath the proposed development, contamination may reach a nearby water course, ultimately discharging at Chapel Porth Beach. The development would put pressure on local amenities including sewerage and waste collection; the site is already causing a considerable amount of “light pollution” with lights being left on all night in this registered “Dark Skies” zone. Noise With the scale of the site increasing significantly, associated noise would obviously have an impact on this previously tranquil location. Two previous planning applications were REJECTED by the Parish Council, Local Planning Officer and one supplementary unit was unanimously voted against by Cornwall's FULL Planning Committee in 2012. The previous applications received over 50 objections on the Cornwall Council Portal and included representations from The World Heritage Site, AONB office and The National Trust. These concerns were dismissed by one government inspector from Bristol when the developer appealed and he was given permission to build. Please refuse this application and protect this valuable coastal amenity and asset, against further development!
