PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE THE EFFORT - it really will make a difference.

Hi everyone interested in the project to buy back Penhale from the developer (who is selling it).
Perranzabuloe Parish Council, to their great credit, are leading an initiative to raise the funds to buy this priceless area of coastal land, in order to preserve it in perpetuity for everyone to enjoy.
It would be an environmental catastrophe if this failed and the site of the old army camp saw 137 tacky second homes built there.
A lot of people are working very hard in the background to accomplish this objective, and help is needed from you all.
Would everyone who supports the plan to save Penhale and put it back to nature please write to the Leader of Cornwall Council, Councillor Julian German, to their local ward councillor and MP but most particularly, to Cherilyn Mackrory MP, as Penhale is in her constituency and she has previously expressed her support.
The more people who take the trouble to do this simple task, the more chance there will be of success, and God only knows we need a bit of success, for a change.

"It is the end of the beginning... Now there is something to fight for as a very clear line is drawn in the sand... The struggle to get this far has been monumental, but proves that when people are inspired and work together, anything is possible in Cornwall's inner sanctum of spirituality that defines this area... I hope St. Piran will be pleased and bless this wonderful initiative."  Kevin Bennetts, Stithians

Kevin has since handed the project over to HOP (Hands Off Perranzabuloe), who have written this message:

"Having successfully cleared our first hurdle - stopping the proposed boundary change (for at least the next six months), we can move on to Phase Two of the campaign: attempting to buy back Penhale Camp in order to demolish the buildings and re-green the whole 40 acre site, so as to return it to its natural state and blend it with the surrounding designated Conservation Area and the adjoining Site of Special Scientific Interest.

There is considerable political weight currently behind the idea of RE-WILDING areas of land which are undeveloped - the Prime Minister has already said that he wants to see 30% of such land 're-greened' and Cornwall Council have voted to go Carbon Neutral by 2030.

Perranzabuloe Parish Council have declared a Climate Emergency and set up a working group called P.A.C.E. to address such issues in the broader sense. We believe strongly that promoting conservation of both the landscape and creating suitable habitats for wildlife, as well as discouraging unnecessary building projects, is vital if we are to preserve our small corner of the planet for future generations. So we are in discussions with various conservancy organisations, including The National Trust, Natural England and Cornwall Wildlife Trust, to try and ensure that Penhale is never built upon again, and that this unique and precious area of our coastal heritage is preserved intact for the benefit of the species which live there and for our children and grandchildren to appreciate and to learn from.

There is also considerable support for the notion of erecting on the site, a memorial to the 22 service personnel who died there as the result of a bomb landing on the camp during WW2. The fundraising and setting up of the Trust to manage the project starts here."
