Some may be aware that we would like to buy back the site of the old Penhale Army Camp from developers, and work with other organisations to preserve this unique coastal environment in its entirety. Whilst we cannot reveal too much about our strategy at this stage, we can at least say that we have so far established a strong consensus of opinion amongst both local people and environmentally-conscious organisations, that returning Penhale Camp to the natural green state it was in before 1939, is a highly desirable objective.
The first task however is to convince Cornwall Council to defer any decision on a proposed change to the 1,000-year old boundary (which would almost certainly result in us losing those 40 acres of land to investors forever) until we have had a chance to raise the funds and put a joint conservation strategy in place. The meeting of CC's Governance Review Panel, at which they will make this determination, takes place on 6th October 2020, so we would really appreciate it, if those who care about preserving our precious natural environment could please contact their own local Cornwall Councillors and urge them not to make a hasty decision on this issue. The landscape and wildlife within our parish is a rare and precious asset which we must cherish and preserve at all costs, for the sake of future generations.
