Have Cornwall council planners gone completely mad?
Truro Newham Treatment works were declared over capacity by SWW in June 2017, yet they want to add a new town at Chiverton and now another 250 homes along a clogged bypass: Morlaix Avenue!
Yet despite this, and all the assurances from the council that planning is now under control since the (highly controversial) Local Plan has been agreed, the developers continue to run riot.
This time, it seems that our own former MP for Truro and Saint Austell, Matthew Taylor (now Baron of Goss Moor, see photo) is using his new contacts, powers and inside knowledge to cash in on his former beleaguered community’s misery, by adding hundreds more unwanted, unsustainable, unaffordable and poorly built “homes” in the dead end Truro sewerage corner, Newham.
A letter of desperation received today from one Cornwall Councillor who obviously feels completely helpless, despite being an elected representative, unlike our temporary officers, who come and go with their gold-plated pensions and handshakes, after wreaking chaos in the Duchy:
“Today was the Cornwall Council meeting and as you will know they are increasing the Council tax by 3.9% - no mention of the increase in the Parish rate or the Police Authority…..
Are you aware of the proposals for Hayle? Apparently there were PINK PAPERS on the Council’s involvement in the development plans because they went into Part 2 (Secret session - behind closed doors) during the meeting today. I am not aware of the outcome but I think we should be looking into it more closely. Councillor Pollard, the local member, was not present at the the meeting today.
There are also plans coming forward for Higher Newham (site opposite Tolgarrick at the top of Arch Hill, Truro). The original planning permission is about to run out and the number of hill top houses has now increased from 150 to 250 in spite of the Truro Newham Treatment works being declared over capacity by SWW in June 2017. In the original plans the Council agreed an egress and access across MORLAIX AVENUE with traffic lights on a very steep incline - IT MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN. The developers must find an alternative access…. And so we go on.
By the way if you go on to “Cornwall Council - webcast” page you can now register to be advised when the “Archive” i.e. the webcast of today’s meeting will be available - you just have to enter your email address and you will be advised.
At the CC meeting today it was announced that the relationship between the people of Cornwall and Cornwall Council has greatly improved … I did not get that impression reading the comments on the petition site!”
Seemingly no common sense, no respect and no limits for developers and their inside men at Cornwall Council planning:
