After the Persimmon Homes disaster, where Phil Mason and the planning department ‘threw’ the appeal - and their own conditions – thus allowing potentially thousands of homes for congested Arch Hill in Truro, the dubiously inspired plans for Newham Farm development opposite Persimmon is revived and set to eliminate the green belt and close the gap between Calenick and Truro.

So whilst John Betty busies himself with council tax payers’ debt increases of some £600m to build a new town at Penstraze/Threemilestone/Chiverton – including a first phase of some 2,700 homes – much of it aimed at cross-Tamar landlords, the former Truro & St. Austell MP appears to finally get his reward on the south side of Truro.

So where the developers - including Inox and Sainsbury’s - initially promised to create the Northern Access Road (NAR) to better serve Treliske Hospital and ease chronic congestion at Chiverton, as well as throw in a FREE stadium for Cornwall, some 8 years ago, we now have the council begging the government for funds for both the road and the stadium, with both unlikely to get any central government funds, whilst the road, if eventually built, won’t happen until 2030 at the earliest!! Talk of shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted. It’s little wonder that in a speech to full council only a year ago, Phil Mason described the Threemilestone strategy as a “MESS”; thus condemning his own life’s work at the new Cornwall Unitary Authority as not fit for purpose. Yet twelve months later, and now promoted to director for strategy, he sets off, with John Betty, to exacerbate the “mess” even further, at tax payers’ expense!!

Unbelievable!

Meanwhile, Phil Mason finds himself in deep water again, following more broken promises, betrayals and U-turns, at Tregarthen, near Penzance, in a story that has hit national headlines; but then, Phil Mason is quite used to both local and national controversy:

"Mr Mason did not carry through on his promises made at his site meeting, reneged on his witnessed comment made at the time and replied to an ombudsman inquiry that the level of overlooking was 'indeed very acceptable and very normal'. "He dismissed multiple policies in place to protect and prevented any corrective measures taking place..."
