As predicted by so many for so long, sewerage is rearing its smelly head all over the place; this is a discussion started on social media yesterday: "SO IT GOES ON ALL THOSE HUNDREDS OF NEW HOUSES HIGHER UP THE HILL AND THE 50 YEAR OLD SEWER POPS IN NORTHCOUNTRY. TO SAY THE PLANNERS WERE TOLD WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WAS FUTILE AS INCIDENTS LIKE THIS BECOME AN ALMOST DAILY EVENT. THIS IS ON A BUSY ROAD NEAR PEOPLE'S HOUSES PERHAPS PLANNER MASON'S NOSE SHOULD BE RUBBED IN THE STUFF! SD Utterly biblical sewer eruption at North Country. Stay well away!! SO IT GOES ON Does it smell worse than Porthreath Harbour in the summer, that makes me wretch just driving past! They will have to clean it up. We're talking solid shit literally down the whole road. The smell was off the scale. I presume it had begun to slightly break down and the proteins had partially decomposed into volatile amines and organic sulphides. KH No, but I'd say the concentrations of "volatiles" were possibly enough to provoke a severe reaction in some. Some of the "smell" compounds are exceedingly poisonous." Separately, in a recent residents' survey by Cornwall Council, respondents gave its new Unitary Authority a general thumbs down, and seem to have little confidence in local government and its officers. Can you blame them?! Here's some selected results from the survey: Only 47% of residents are satisfied with the way the Council runs things. Only 30% believe the Council gives value for money. Only 33% believe the Council is making the local area a better place to live. The overall level of satisfaction with the Council has fallen significantly over the last 12 months. Only 20% believe that the Council is efficient and well run. Only 25% believe the Council is trustworthy. To view the full Residents Survey: Search for Cornwall Council - councillors and democracy Search for “Cabinet” Meeting 15th November, 2017 - Agenda Item No. 8 then Click on Appendix 2 and THERE IS THE WHOLE SURVEY which can be printed out. I expect the levels of satisfaction will plummet in Launceston, as residents there woke up this morning feeling utterly betrayed by their employees: Cornwall Council planners: "People are angry at new houses at Launceston advertised by Wainhomes as second homes..." One councillor said: 'It's extremely disappointing.' www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/wainhomes-advert-holiday-homes-launceston-769478
