Many cats are found dead on the roadside.   Councils remove and dispose of them but do not automatically check for microchips.  Owners phone all around trying to trace their pets and are told by councils they do not scan for microchips! Cats lose collars with phone numbers on and people pay to have their cats microchipped so in the case they go missing they are traceable via the chips.  Pet owners would rather know the outcome of their lost cat than to be left for-ever wondering what has happened to them.
