Carraig-na-bhFear waste-water treatment upgrade
The Issue
Carraig-na-bhFear Community Council is appealing for the upgrade of the waste water treatment plant within the village.
It is the unwavering belief of the Carraig-na-bhFear Community Council, and the local community that having no appropriate upgrade of the Waste Water Facility at College Road, Carraig-na-bhFear, will decimate the prosperity, growth and development of the village. We have a number of brown field sites available, however given the current situation there is no interest in the development of housing. This in turn prevents new businesses and initiatives from taking off.
The following are our concerns as a community:
1) A new soon to be built primary school will have the capacity for 340 students, however given the stalemate in the development of housing, the community will not be able to fully utilise the facility.
2) The site of the current National school will be cut off from the waste water lines. Given we cannot add anymore sites to the current sewerage systems, it will mean no development can take place that requires water works, greatly reducing its appeal to anyone, resulting in this site becoming an unsightly unused lot.
3) Currently Carraig-na-bhFear Community Council is planning on developing a Community Complex in a site adjacent to new National school, however considerable investment in a private waste water treatment facility on the new site will be required. Allocating funds to a private wastewater unit on site is not favorable for the community as it will mean the re-profiling of funds from other essential community initiatives.
4) Similar to the above we believe the lack of sufficient public waste water facilities is an unnecessary added expense to private new builds, and is a repelling factor in the decision for housing as the planning permission will not be granted using the public supply.
