The Business of Harm: Why Private Prisons Prioritize Profit Over People
Families are experiencing neglect and abuse inside for-profit prisons. It's not a bug in the system—it's the business model.
Here's what happens when companies run prisons for profit: every dollar they don't spend on staff, medical care, food, or rehabilitation becomes profit. That's not an incentive to care for people. It's an incentive to cut corners. And that's exactly what we're seeing across the country—severe understaffing, high violence, delayed medical care, and people locked in solitary confinement far too long.
Public prisons have a legal and ethical duty to prioritize safety. Private companies have a duty to shareholders. Those two things can't live together.
The worst part? Private prison companies dodge public records laws. Families can't get answers. Journalists can't investigate. Nobody can see what's really happening inside.
Cancel the contracts with CoreCivic and all for-profit prison operators. Restore public oversight. Restore accountability. Restore humanity.
Does anyone else feel like this is getting out of hand? What would you want someone to do if this was your family locked inside?
