Stop the Violence: Corangamite Urges Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

The issue

Corangamite Electorate Stands for Peace and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

From our tranquil corner of the world, we cannot turn a blind eye to the immense pain and challenges faced by the people of Israel and Palestine.

Together, we can make a difference by influencing our local MP, Libby Coker, to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza and allow for humanitarian aide for the innocent people who cannot escape the Gaza Strip.

The news emerging from the region is both heartbreaking and alarming. The relentless bombing has devastated homes, neighbourhoods, medical facilities, and places of worship, leaving 80% of the population (1.8 million) displaced. The human toll is staggering, with over 17,000 lives lost, including over 8,000 innocent children.

The use of banned white phosphorus and the severe blockade on basic necessities like electricity, water, and medical supplies constitute grave violations of international law. We call upon our local Member of Parliament to condemn these gross violations, demand an immediate ceasefire, and urge international efforts to address the root causes of this conflict. It is our moral duty to stand up for the most basic of human rights, the right to live in peace and freedom.

Shown is the overlay of Gaza Strip on the Geelong and Surfcoast region. Imagine this space of our city, surrounded by a walls and then 18,000 tonnes of

bombs dropped on the area with a population of over 2.2 million people, 50% being children.
