Many fellow Youtube Creators have heard of the new COPPA laws on Youtube. This situation arose when Youtube was sued by COPPA. This caused many new laws in hope to make Youtube more “kid-friendly.” However, I don’t think these changes are making Youtube any more kid-friendly. Recently, an email was sent to Youtube Creators. This email consisted of many shocking facts. It stated that all Youtube Creators must identify whether their content is kid-friendly or not kid-friendly. While this seems simple, the effects are much less. If you select kid-friendly, then you will eventually lose community posts, livestreams, comments, likes and dislikes, etc. I do not find any of these things helpful to make Youtube any more kid-friendly. All they do is take away all features except for the video itself. The main issue is that even if someone said that their videos were kid-friendly they could still make non kid-friendly content, but not have all of those extra features. Now let’s move on to the non kid-friendly selection. If you select non kid-friendly only viewers who are 18+ will be able to watch your videos. What’s more, you will have to pay money to be able to keep posting. If you don’t select anything at all, you are at high risk of getting your channel banned. As you can probably see, COPPA isn’t helping Youtube become more kid-friendly. What I find the worst about these laws is the fact that some people have this as their full-time job. I don’t think some people realize that this could jeopardize many people’s careers. I want to get as many people to sign as possible to help make a change. Together, we can all stand up for the rights of all Youtube Creators.
