Cooroy Dog Park

Cooroy Dog Park
The issue
Noosa Council Petition
Dear Councillors,
The signatories attached wish to petition for an off lead area and a dog park in the Cooroy area and suggest the following for council consideration;
1. The present designated off lead area near Kauri Street is not viable and so is not used by dog owners.
2. The council makes available suitable land areas and facilities for many sporting clubs, some of which have very low usage rates.
3. Dog ownership is very high in the Cooroy area and suitable places for training and running are not available.
4. Allowing dogs to run off lead encourages them to socialise whilst exercising, leading to generally better dog behaviour both with people and other dogs.
5. At present, the incidence of off lead dog walking and running, contrary to council rules, is very high, leading to the feeling that the needs of dog owners are not being met.
6. Some other councils allow off lead times on sports grounds and/or parks.
7. Present Noosa Council dog parks and off lead areas are not close to Cooroy.
8. Dog parks not only benefit dogs, but also encourage exercise and socialising of dog owners.
The following suggestions are made for consideration.
1. OFF LEAD AREA
The rugby field adjacent to Sportsground Parade is used rarely, is fenced to the road and could be made available for off lead dogs in limited hours, say between 5.00 am and 9.00 am, Sunday to Friday. This would avoid Saturdays when cricket and football matches are played on nearby grounds. There would be no cost to rate payers for this option.
2. DOG PARK
The Car Club has a large area of land which is mostly unused. This area would need suitable dog proof fences and separation from the club house. All land would still be available to the car club for special events.
Council may be aware of other suitable land
