Good Evening. As of 11:50pm, our petition of the Cooperstown Central School District Board of Education has recieved 938 signatures and countless comments. This petition was not aimed to hurt feelings or call names. For anyone who did that, you've missed the point. Myself and Bobby Walker authored this petition because we saw a great injustice. Any B.O.E should handle situations like this one with more grace, taste, understanding and compassion. I am so thankful that the B.O.E became inspired by the outpouring of support. I'm very pleased that they acted so swiftly to make good with Laurie Pestar and her family. I truly hope that whatever solution was met, that it leaves Laurie and her family feeling more comfortable. Although I have gone off to college, that doesn't mean Ist'll ever stop fighting for the people of my community. We impose a great trust on our elected officials. Which means we should trust that they make ethical and responsible decisions in our name. I will be ever vigilant of my alma mater. Although the Board has "made good" with the family, myself and Bob will still present this petition to the District Board of Education on December 14th, 2016 at 5:30pm in the High School Library. We hope that it serves as a testimony to how inappropriate, brash, coldhearted and unethical the original handling of the situation was. I certainly will not forget the handling of this situation when I head to the voting booth in May of 2017. Again, thank you to everyone who signed this petition and stood in solidarity to demand that something be done for Laurie and her family. Because of you, It only took 24 hours for the Board to "make good" on their mistake. When the people come out in numbers, we can bring change. Large or small. Thank you. Always in solidarity, MacGuire.
