The Issue

My family and I strive to live a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. We produce as much of our own GMO-free food as we can - from fresh vegetables to homemade baked goods. And having fresh eggs from our own chickens would align perfectly with our home production efforts. However, current regulations in our beloved Village of Belgium do not permit keeping backyard chickens.

Chickens not only provide fresh, organic eggs but also provide compostable waste and natural pest control. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), having backyard chickens promotes physical activity, offers educational opportunities, and provides a healthier diet from farm-fresh produce.

Given the health benefits and sustainable attributes aligned with the village's commitment to quality of life, we appeal to the Village of Belgium authorities to consider amending the existing rules. We ask that they allow residents to keep a limited number of chickens in their backyard for personal use while ensuring guidelines to control potential nuisances.

Every signature on this petition brings us one step closer to ensuring a greener, healthier lifestyle for our families. So, please, sign the petition for The Village of Belgium to permit backyard chickens.
