The Issue

In a charming seaside town with a rich heritage, where a renowned car inventor, Richard Stephens, once lived and created, it seems fitting to honor such a legacy with innovation that reflects the past while looking towards a sustainable future. What better way to honor their memory than to introduce a unique, environmentally-conscious mode of transportation that celebrates our shared history—custom designed rickshaws shaped like the Stephens iconic vehicle models, serving the local community and visitors alike?

The Stephens Prototype Pedicab offers Clevedonians the experience of riding a zero emissions rickshaw up and down Clevedon BEFORE it's ever proposed as a park-n-ride concept.

The pedicab business plan for north Somerset is not just a tribute; it’s an opportunity to infuse new life into our town. With the introduction of a higher wattage electric passenger bike, our proposed service is poised to offer sustainable, non-polluting transport solutions that are both practical and engaging. It promises not only to reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution but also to present a tourist attraction that highlights our local heritage.

Despite its evident advantages, the plan faces bureaucratic hurdles as it awaits legitimization by the North Somerset District Council. Current regulations do not permit the higher wattage electric passenger bikes necessary for the successful implementation of this service, hindering its potential to contribute positively to the community and environment.

To surmount these challenges, we urge the North Somerset District Council to amend current regulations, thereby legitimizing the pedicab business plan. With substantiated evidence of the positive impacts of similar initiatives in other communities, there is a compelling case for action. Studies show that cities with robust cycling and pedicab infrastructure enjoy decreased pollution levels and increased tourism, bolstered by the unique attractions they offer.
