Convince Disney to make Fantasia 3
The Issue
Any Disney fan will tell you that Walt Disney's original Fantasia film released in 1940 is one of the greatest animated films in the Disney canon, if not cinema history, blending classical music with striking, beautiful animation. It was Disney's intention to reissue the movie annually with new segments. But because the movie was considered a failure at the time, his vision wouldn't come to fruition until nearly 60 years later with Fantasia 2000, and that was just about 25 years ago!
Since then, the style of animation has evolved drastically, with CGI looking as realistic as can be and able to mimick 2D animation. Also, with Disney in a bit of a rut trying to connect with their audiences, with them claiming that Disney has lost the magic it once had with their movies that have made them timeless for generations.
The were plans by Disney to release a third Fantasia film for 2006, but it eventually got scrapped. Some of the segments intended to be part of the film, such as 'The Little Match Girl' and 'One By One' were eventually released independently as bonus features on some of Disney's DVD releases.
I believe now is the time for Disney to take another jab at it, as a way to recapture the magic of their artistic and storytelling splendour showcasing the best of their hand-drawn and CGI animations styles, even stop-motion. The only thing they should improve on is the film's run time, keeping it at 2 hours like the first film instead of just over an hour long like they did with 2000, and cutting out the cringey, forced humor from celebrity hosts, and just describing the plot and music of the preceding pieces- Basically go back to what made the original Fantasia a masterpiece.
I would love to see a trilogy set of Fantasia films, and if Disney makes this happen by 2040, the 100th anniversary of the original Fantasia, the perfect title they can give it is (DRUMROLL)...'Fantasia Centennial'! So let's make Disney see what we really want and how they can be what Walt originally set out for his company to be.
