Convert All Amtrak Infill Stations into Flag Stops

Convert All Amtrak Infill Stations into Flag Stops

The Issue

As a frequent rider of Amtrak's trains, I've noticed that some of them stop at non-major infill stations along the route. This practice often leads to delays and less efficient service for passengers traveling to major destinations. Therefore, I propose that any Amtrak station classified as an infill station or a non-major station should be converted into a flag stop. This means that the train would not stop there unless specifically requested by a passenger.

The implementation of this change could potentially increase the frequency and efficiency of train services. According to statistics from the Federal Railroad Administration, flag stops can reduce travel times by up to 15% on long-distance routes (Federal Railroad Administration, 2019). By making this change, we could significantly improve the experience for millions of passengers who rely on Amtrak's services every year.

I understand that infill stations serve local communities and it is not my intention to diminish their importance. However, converting these stations into flag stops will ensure they continue serving their communities without disrupting other passengers' journeys.

Let's work together to make our rail system more efficient and responsive to passenger needs. Please sign this petition urging Amtrak to convert all its infill stations into flag stops.
