Control pet health care costs

The Issue

On April 15th, I lost my beloved Puff, who had been my companion for 18 years. She meant everything to me, and her absence feels like an irreplaceable void in my life. Sadly, I was faced with an impossible choice – pay for Puff's urgent veterinary care or cover my basic living expenses. Despite my desperate wish to extend her years, finances made this decision for me.

This heart-wrenching situation is not unique to me. Countless pet owners face similar dilemmas daily, forced to choose between the health care of their beloved pets and their financial stability. The rising costs of pet health care have spiraled out of control, putting undue stress on families during already challenging times.

According to a survey by the American Pet Products Association, the pet care industry is worth over $99 billion in the U.S alone, with veterinary care accounting for a significant portion of this. Moreover, the North American Pet Health Insurance Association reported that veterinary costs have consistently risen by about 5-10% annually over the past decade.

It is clear that action needs to be taken to alleviate this financial burden on pet owners. I am calling on government officials and veterinary service providers to work together to create more affordable and accessible options for pet health care. This includes the consideration of implementing a cap on annual veterinary costs, subsidies, or tax incentives for pet health insurance, and the establishment of community funds to provide financial assistance to those in urgent need.

These changes are critical not only for the well-being of our pets but also for their caregivers who tirelessly strive to provide for them. We must ensure that no pet suffers because their owner is unable to afford necessary care. Our pets are family and they deserve the same access to health care.

Join me in advocating for change and stand with those of us who've had to make the heartbreaking choice between our pets’ health and our financial well-being. Together, we can bring about a future where every pet can receive the care they need without putting their owners in financial jeopardy.

Please sign this petition and help us bring about much-needed change.

Marie MendozaPetition StarterI had the pleasure of loving Puff for 18 years but could not always afford to bring her to the Vet. I could not find any help with the costs, I tried everything . We should not have to sacrifice our pets health care! Help me fight for our furbabies!
