En noviembre de 2002, hace ahora 21 años, la marea negra del Prestige asolaba las costas de Galicia. Entonces dijimos: ¡Nunca máis!

Hoy, nos enfrentamos a una nueva crisis ambiental: una marea blanca de pellets plásticos. Estos pequeños gránulos están contaminando nuestras playas y dañando nuestra vida marina y, por ende, pudiendo terminar por ser consumidos por los seres humanos en los alimentos.

Pasadas varias semanas de inacción, no podemos esperar más.

Exigimos una limpieza segura y urgente que elimine estos pellets plásticos -sobre los que aún desconocemos el alcance de su toxicidad-, y también exigimos que se depuren responsabilidades tanto por la catástrofe medioambiental en si como por su nefasta gestión. 

La UE considera prioritaria la reducción de la contaminación por microplásticos en el mar, planteando su reducción en un 30% para 2030. Es hora de exigir acción. No podemos permitir que nuestra riqueza y nuestro patrimonio natural sean víctimas nuevamente de la falta de cuidado y la incompetencia de las autoridades gallegas.

Por supuesto, agradecemos el esfuerzo y la labor de todas las voluntarias y voluntarios, llegados de toda Galicia, entregados a la causa de limpiar nuestros arenales y preservar nuestro patrimonio medioambiental.

Por favor, firma esta petición para exigir una respuesta a la actual catástrofe, depurar responsabilidades y proteger nuestras costas contra futuras amenazas ambientales.

In November 2002, 21 years ago now, the Prestige oil spill ravaged the coast of Galicia. Then we said: Never again!

Today, we face a new environmental crisis: a white tide of plastic pellets. These small granules are polluting our beaches and damaging our marine life and, therefore, could end up being consumed by humans in food.

After several weeks of inaction, we can't wait any longer.

We demand a safe and urgent cleanup that removes these plastic pellets -about which we still do not know the extent of their toxicity-, and we also demand that responsibilities be cleared both for the environmental catastrophe itself and for its disastrous management.

The EU considers the reduction of microplastic pollution in the sea a priority, proposing a 30% reduction by 2030. It is time to demand action. We cannot allow our wealth and our natural heritage to be victims again of the lack of care and incompetence of the Galician authorities.

Of course, we appreciate the effort and work of all the volunteers, who came from all over Galicia, dedicated to the cause of cleaning our beaches and preserving our environmental heritage.
