Stop the toxicity on Social Media

Stop the toxicity on Social Media
The Issue
During these recent months of the coronavirus lockdown, I have a noticed a spike in inappropriate content circulating on various social media platforms. As a 12-year-old, this is shocking to me. Most of these acts are performed on social media platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. The content creators on these platforms include a few famous Youtubers and TikTokers who were caught being:
Racist: People supporting the police officer who did injustice to George Floyd, a black man who meant no harm to anyone but was murdered by a white police officer. "I can't breathe" he said.
Homophobic: Some social media influencers and content creators are insensitive towards the LGBTQ community.
Judgmental: People are judgmental towards other social media users due to their appearance, including influencers. For example, Charli D'amelio was judged about being thin and slim. Addison Rae being judged due to her body fat; she was also called a whale in one of her comments.
Social Media has become a toxic place filled with ruthless violence, judgement on peoples’ bodies, color, religion and a lot more. :(((
While we all should be supportive and appreciate of the amount of time and effort Influencers in general, put into their work, the hurtful social media influencers should be cancelled. Why?
- They bring down people's self-esteem
- They affect young children's mindset and make them believe that the world is not such a good place
- They are a bad influence and can make children and young adults follow their lead
- Most importantly, they do it for their personal gains - popularity and money.
This is why I believe you should sign this petition and join the cause. :)))
