Imagine, a warm memory from childhood: Enjoying the respite of a cool movie theater during a hot summer, munching on salty popcorn and your favorite fruity candy. Maybe playfully arguing with your siblings or friends over who gets the last piece of candy. Fast forward 10-20 years later, and every time you open a bag or box of that candy, you’re instantly transported back to your younger years. In that blissful moment you’re momentarily reminded of how it felt to be young and carefree. 

It may seem trivial to some, but imagine the disappointment and longing you would feel if something so nostalgic, and irreplaceable to you simply disappeared one day. That is how possibly thousands of people, if not more, feel having lost their favorite candy in the whole world, ZOURS.  

Just Born, the parent company of Mike and Ike Brand candy, discontinued production of the beloved “ZOURS” line or “Mike and Ike Brand Sour-Licious ZOURS” in December of 2020. On December 3, 2020 the verified Mike and Ike Twitter account confirmed the devastating discontinuation by responding to to a retailer’s (@TiquasBoutique) inquiry asking where to find Zours saying, “Hi there! Unfortunately, due to limited interest from retailers and consumers, MIKE AND IKE SOUR-licious ZOURS have been discontinued. We're sorry for your disappointment. If you're still looking for something sour, try our MIKE AND IKE MEGA MIX SOUR!”

An outpouring of dozens of heartbroken, longtime fans shared their sadness and frustration with Mike and Ike’s decision. Many people expressing how it has been their favorite candy for years, and how the “Mega Mix Sour” replacement, really does not stack up against the treasured, original ZOURS. The replacement is too waxy, does not have the same consistency or mouthfeel, and above all, lacks the distinctive sours powder on the outside of the candy that was characteristic and integral to the original ZOURS. 

If you’re a lifelong fan, retailer, or business who used to stock Mike and Ike Brand ZOURS, please consider signing this petition to let Just Born / Mike and Ike know that there is in fact an abundance of interest from retailers and consumers alike to resurrect this iconic, and possibly even one of the best sour candies of all time.
