Feds: Shut Down Equifax until Their Credit Freezing System Works

After the massive Equifax information breach, millions of Americans are trying to freeze their credit data with the major credit bureaus, to make the information inaccessible for origination of fraudulent loans by criminals. Although Transamerica's and Experian's systems seem to be working adequately to allow such freezes, Equifax's system is giving error messages. The failure of this system could allow criminals to originate fraudulent loans while using the identities of victims who were unable to freeze their information due to Equifax' malfunctioning system. The Federal government must intervene to protect consumers. Either the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or the agency to which it reports must take action and shut down Equifax' operation until it can clearly demonstrate that its system for freezing credit data is working well.
