Construct sidewalks on Washington Ave (Pleasantville, NY)

Construct sidewalks on Washington Ave (Pleasantville, NY)
The Issue
This is a petition to construct additional sidewalks on Washington Avenue. Washington Avenue is a major road in Pleasantville that leaves approximately 800 residents without a sidewalk. This lack of infrastructure poses a huge safety risk to our residents, especially our youth, including I, who would gladly walk to school, but am limited by the absence of sidewalks.
In 2016, an elderly man was fatally struck by a car on Washington Avenue due to the lack of walkways. (link)
We request the construction of sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety. The proposed sidewalk would span from Grandview Avenue to S. Greeley Avenue. This would separate pedestrians from traffic throughout the entire road.
Pleasantville is a highly walkable village with the school district designating itself as a walking district. Though most drivers are well-behaved, speeders cause too many close calls for comfort. As traffic in the village continues to increase, additional safety measures and infrastructure are needed to keep our residents safe.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for a safer community where we can all walk safely without fear. Thank you all for your commitment.
*The section of Washington Ave that lacks a footpath, for which we are petitioning, is a county road, meaning that any changes must be made by the Westchester Department of Public Works.
