St. Marys Rd would greatly benefit from putting in sidewalks leading to town. The sidewalk would connect St. Marys Rd. to Ayr Mount, River Park School, and downtown historic Hillsborough. As a resident of St. Marys Rd, I often see kids from River Park walking down the side of the road which is very dangerous for them. The road is far too dangerous to walk on without sidewalks because of fast drivers and turns, yet many people still make the commute because its a main road for many. It would be much safer for Hillsborough as well as bringing new people to town. As well, walking and biking is much better for the environment than driving but the lack of accessibility in Hillsborough is forcing many to drive on easily walkable commutes. I hope that the town of Hillsborough will consider adding a sidewalk to St. Marys Rd. as it would much improve the quality of life and safety of our community.
