As a resident of this side of town, I have personally experienced the increasing difficulties faced by locals due to the lack of a direct exit from Route 23 to Jefferson Street. Many of us have felt the adverse impacts of this missing exit on our daily commutes, which shows a clear need to address this infrastructure gap. Constructing an overpass at Jefferson and Pole Lane would undeniably benefit local traffic and residents alike. This change can reduce traffic congestion, save time for commuters, and improve overall safety on our roads. A study by the National Transportation Research Group found that each dollar spent on road, highway, and bridge improvements results in an average benefit of $5.20 in the form of reduced vehicle maintenance costs, reduced delays, reduced fuel consumption, improved safety, and reduced emissions. Therefore, this petition calls for local authorities to take into account the pressing needs of the community and plan for the construction of the Route 23 exit to Jefferson Street and the Jefferson & Pole Lane Overpass.
