Living in Salt Lake City, I've come to appreciate the incredible range of sports and recreational activities our parks offer. From hard and sand volleyball courts to expansive tennis facilities, graceful dance studios to adrenaline-pumping skate parks, our parks system has it all—almost. Yet, there's one sport that remains conspicuously absent: inline and roller hockey.

The absence of a dedicated outdoor inline hockey rink is not just a personal inconvenience but a noticeable void in our community’s vibrant sports landscape. In line with Salt Lake City's commitment to fostering active lifestyles and encouraging community engagement, adding a free public outdoor inline hockey rink is a logical and much-needed step.

Inline hockey, known for its fast-paced, engaging play, promotes not only physical fitness but also teamwork, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. Imagine weekends where families can gather, children can learn, and players of all ages can enjoy this thrilling sport surrounded by the stunning views of our city parks. This rink would not just serve hockey players; it would also become an inclusive space for schools, community leagues, and sports enthusiasts to meet, learn, and grow.

Salt Lake City's parks system is already renowned for accommodating a rich variety of sports and activities. From pickleball courts to sand volleyball and everything in between, our park amenities cater to nearly every interest. Inline hockey deserves its place among them.

Moreover, the construction of this rink can be a low-cost, high-impact project. Many cities like Denver and Portland have successfully integrated similar facilities, seeing positive community responses and increased park usage. With many residents already owning inline skates, the rink would be immediately accessible and utilized.

The benefits are clear: promoting health, fostering community, and expanding our recreational offerings. We urge the Salt Lake City local government and parks department to consider this opportunity to enhance our parks system further.

Please join us in calling for a new, dynamic addition to our already impressive parks. Together, we can ensure Salt Lake City truly caters to all of its residents. Sign this petition to make outdoor inline hockey a reality in our city! (Again, donations are not mandatory/necessary to sign!)
