Construct a Safe Public Pathway on the A4063 Connecting Maesteg to Coytrahen
The Issue
For years, residents of Maesteg like myself have been trapped without a safe footpath out of our town towards Bridgend. The A4063, our only option, is dangerous and unlit at night. This lack of infrastructure not only restricts our mobility but also puts lives at risk. Workers from the local papermills and other pedestrians are forced to rely on public trasport that is not reliable this daily. Tragically, this has led to preventable fatalities on the road as mentioned.
The solution is clear - we need Maesteg Council to construct a public pathway along the A4063 with full visibility at night. This would provide a safe route for pedestrians between Maesteg and Coytrahen, reducing accidents and improving quality of life for all residents and a clear connection to bridgend on foot.
According to data from Road Safety Wales (2019), pedestrian casualties account for approximately 25% of all road traffic casualties in Wales each year - an alarming statistic that underscores the urgency of our situation in Maesteg.
We call upon you, decision-makers in Maesteg Council, to prioritize pedestrian safety by building this much-needed pathway along the A4063. Let's prevent further deaths and make walking out of Maesteg towards Bridgend safe for everyone.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer communities through better infrastructure.
