This matter is incredibly personal to me and the community. Salisbury, MD has been facing a severe lack of public ice skating facilities for years now. Our beloved University hockey team is left without a local place to practice and play on home ground. The situation was recently exacerbated when, after 20 consistent years of service, one of our area's only ice rinks announced its closure. This was more than just a place to skate, it was a community center that brought together families, friends, and ice sport enthusiasts. Today, the need for a public ice rink in Salisbury has never been more critical.

Ice rinks cater to a wide demographic, providing a venue for sports such as hockey and figure skating as well as a recreational space for the community. Besides entertainment, they also contribute significantly to the local economy. According to the Ice Skating Institute, one ice rink facility can generate about $1.5 million in annual revenue, supporting sports facilities, local businesses, and more (ISI).

By building a public ice rink, we are not just creating a space for sport, but we are enhancing the quality of life for our residents, supporting our local university team, and promoting economic growth.
