As a concerned parent of two students at North Middle School, I am deeply worried about the safety of our children crossing the hectic traffic of 2nd Street before and after school. With the steady increase of traffic due to the several newly added roundabouts, it has become a significant risk for kids to cross the street on each school day. The lack of a crossing guard, once a beacon of safety, has multiplied our fears. We propose the construction of a pedestrian bridge from North Middle School crossing to Eastgate shopping center, offering a safe pathway for our children to commute. According to a study by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), pedestrian bridges can reduce pedestrian-vehicle crashes by more than 50%. Our children's safety is a critical concern that should not be compromised. Hence, we urge our local government and school district to put this issue on their priority list and act promptly.
