Construct a Pedestrian Bridge for Safe Access to Devil's Dyke

The Issue

The crossing of the A27 Devils Dyke interchange

As individuals who frequently navigate the hazardous conditions surrounding Devil's Dyke, we understand the immediate need for a pedestrian bridge. The quickest route up to and back from the dyke currently presents a significant risk to walkers, compelling them to cross busy roads and navigate steep, muddy banks. This perilous journey makes the return trip equally treacherous, as pedestrians often find themselves slipping and sliding down muddy slopes into busy traffic.

Recognizing the risks this situation imposes upon our community members, we deem this situation unacceptable. Additionally, the lack of safe access points not only compromises the safety of locals and tourists alike but also detracts from the overall experience of this breathtaking natural landmark.

Around 1.25 million people are killed in road traffic accidents worldwide each year, according to the World Health Organisation. As part of the global and local effort to reduce such unnerving figures, we must insist on this pedestrian bridge's construction. Such an initiative would significantly reduce the risk of accidents and enable safer, more enjoyable visits to Devil's Dyke.

We call upon the local authorities to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of their residents and visitors. We urge them to construct this much-needed pedestrian bridge and, in doing so, substantially reduce the risks currently faced by pedestrians. Please add your voice to this critical cause by signing this petition.
