Construct a Crosswalk on Livernois Rd near Rochester High School

The Issue

We the students of Rochester High School often find ourselves riskily dashing across Livernois Rd. Our after-school activities keep us engaged, its appeal not falling far from the many tantalizing restaurants situated just across the street. With time often against us, students are forced to cross this busy road hurriedly, yielding to practicality over safety. This issue is sympathized with the staff, parents, and locals affiliated with Rochester High School, for this creates a danger to the drivers as well.

However, inconvenience does not warrant risking lives. The importance of pedestrian safety in school zones is well documented. According to a study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian infrastructure significantly reduces crashes leading to pedestrian injuries and fatalities. A crosswalk, a well-recognized symbol of pedestrian right-of-way, can act as the first line of defense, signaling drivers to anticipate and yield to pedestrians.

Therefore, this plea goes out to the local authorities of Oakland County. We ask that a crosswalk be established on Livernois Rd, directly across from Rochester High School. This would not only safeguard the welfare of hundreds of students daily but also reinforce the importance of pedestrian safety in our community. Sign this petition to join us in advocating for a safer, more responsibly designed Livernois Rd.
