Judge to reconsider ruling against Isipingo’s Madressah Taleemuddeen’s call to prayer

Judge to reconsider ruling against Isipingo’s Madressah Taleemuddeen’s call to prayer
The Issue
Over decades in South Africa, the Islamic call to prayer has been accepted and categorized under the Freedom to practice religion. However, this right was disrupted when recently, a resident in Isipingo won the court’s ruling against Madressah Taleemuddeen Institution’s call to prayer. Where he additionally mentioned that Islam is a racist and sexist religion. The Isipingo Beach Hindu Society and the Isipingo Beach Christian Fellowship Society do not support the applicant.
As fellow South Africans living in a rainbow nation, we need to accommodate and live in multi-religious and cultural environments without insulting, defaming and expressing prejudicial statements against other beliefs and belief structures.
The ruling against the call to prayer not only opposes the South African Bill of Rights, but also indirectly supports the bigoted statements made. Hence, we urge Judge Mngadi to reconsider this judgement and allow for the call to prayer to be re-instated at the Institute.
