WE NEED HELP PREVENTING A SLAUGHTER-house in Queensbury/Kingsbury!                                           ———————————————

- A Hudson Falls, NY, farmer is seeking investors to build a 25,000-square-foot slaughterhouse at the Airport Industrial Park on the Queensbury/Kingsbury border to kill and package:

                                         300 cows and 200 pigs per week.

- He hopes to get approval this fall and have it in operation by next spring or summer.

- We, members of the Queensbury-based Coalition of Animal Rights Enthusiasts, partnering with Slaughter-Free Albany, oppose this on many grounds. Here are the main reasons:

1.         A killing business is not a good fit for America’s Hometown and surrounding towns. It does not send a good message about who we are and, in fact, is likely to deter other businesses from locating here. In addition, there will be trucks of cows and pigs heading to their end on our local roads.

2.         Property values decline around slaughterhouses, and selling and renting properties can become more difficult.

3.         Mr. Kilcoyne claims the slaughterhouse will create 25+ new jobs but these are not good jobs. Slaughterhouse workers suffer not only from serious on-the-job injuries but also a higher rate of PTSD, drug and alcohol use, and domestic violence.

4.         Local crime rates also go up - especially violent crimes - whenever and wherever slaughterhouses open.

5.         With the climate catastrophe now becoming quite obvious, we must make changes, and one thing we can do to cut emissions is to end animal agriculture, which is one of - it not the greatest -  cause. People do not need to eat animals, and by raising and killing them we are contributing methane, stripping forests, and creating water and land pollution.

6.  Then, of course, there are the animals themselves - treated as      commodities, with no regard for their suffering.
