Some animated film franchises are cash cows to the point of there being new films until the series gets itself a flop, others have always had the intention with how many films it had have. Among what hadn't been a cash cow was the Shrek franchise, which had it's 4th film serve as a closing point to the franchise per what was always intended, but now there is due to be a 5th film over another spinoff or better yet tv spinoff that is to release in 2026. Maybe other animated films which intentionally stopped after 3 or 4 films could have another film sometime as well, like the Hotel Transylvania franchise which took the same path as the Shrek franchise where it was always the plan to have 4 films total, or maybe even fellow Dreamworks Animation franchises Madagascar and How To Train Your Dragon which both had their 3rd films serve as a closing point.
