Petition to oppose gas power plant in clinton county pa.
The Issue
We the undersigned oppose the power plant in Renovo pa. The project is underway in Renovo pa to build a power plant mere feet away from a historic mountain community known as Renovo pa. Renovo pa once labeled “the resort town of the mountains” historically boasted some of the cleanest water and air in the country. Renovo a small town with a population estimated at just over 1 thousand resides isolated deep in the mountains nestled directly between sproul state Forrest and Susquehannoc state Forrest and boasts to this day some of the most spectacular views in the entire state from hyner lookout point. A project is underway to put a natural gas power plant directly in the town. Not miles away but literally inside the town. Due to the remote nature of Renovo stargazing is some of the best in the country and the Milky Way is clearly visible at night due to the lack of light pollution. The plant will have large lights in 24/7 and obscure that view. It’s so quiet in Renovo you can hear the tires on the pavement from incoming vehicles from miles away. All the the natural splendor of this town is in jeopardy. They intend to build a massive two turbine plant literally in the town. The turbines are estimated to produce 85 decibels of sound 24/7 disrupting the peaceful nature of the town. The emissions produced threaten the clean mountain air of not only the town but the state forests that surround it for about 30 miles in all directions. Not to mention the exact location of the plant will be alongside the town blocking the spectacular Mountain View’s it’s has historically had since the towns inception in 1825. The plant will cover 65 acres making it so large it will take up over 1/10th the size of the entire township. It will only employ between 25-35 people full time and will not be a major job producer for the community. It will forever change life in my small town and it is too small to fight large corporate energy interests.
