Conservation Of the Most Critically Endangered bird,The Great Indian Bustard

The Issue

My earnest appeal to you is to join me, in an "Appeal to Indian Board Of Wild Life" and  to  Hon.Union Minister of Environment, Forest and climate change.

With an objective of conservation of the remaining population of The Great Indian Bustard and its cousin ,the Lesser Florican, I am requesting  you to sign this petition. These species despite being listed in Schedule 1 of the wild life protection act of 1972, also put on IUCN's RED LIST, remain critically low in population in three states only.Supreme court mandates  under grounding low voltage lines. As fatal collision with power lines is the main threat to this heaviest flying bird. Power cable laying companies have pleaded 'not cost effective'.Community needs your support to make them live .

Several organisations  have started initiatives to Save the Great Indian Bustard from extinction ,with little success. State governments have built sanctuaries, where a few birds  are  artificially hatched from eggs picked up from the grasslands. This bird species that existed before us humans ,millions of years ago has been hunted by us humans, their habitats destroyed and fragmented due to conversion of grasslands.

Do we want them to survive from the Wind turbines' edges? Then those have to be painted . How to protect the nesting birds from stray dogs?  Lethargy towards active grasslands management has to change. The need of the hour is for all of us to share this concern to conserve  The Great Indian Bustard.
