Consequences for false allegations preventing child contact

Consequences for false allegations preventing child contact

The Issue

The system is broken. There are no consequences for people (Male or Female) that make false allegations to Social Services, Police or the Courts in a domestic setting against a former partner to prevent child contact ......... children suffer the loss of a loving parent while it all gets sorted out.

As a charity that supports male victims of domestic abuse we have spoken to so many men this week who are Dads, and with similarities so strong in their story that they follow a pattern.......

(1) Their Ex partner gets annoyed with them, and stops them from seeing their child/children.

(2) They ask to get contact restored and false allegations are made up against them of child molestation, rape, drink or drug issues, domestic abuse or physical violence. Child contact is further prevented by the system, for months while it is investigated.

(3) The false allegations are cleared up, NO CASE TO ANSWER, no repercussions for false accusations to the accuser despite the emotional distress and mental health impact faced by both the falsely accused, and their innocent child/children.

(4) Child contact resumed, possibly in a contact centre.

(5) Go to step 1.

Men have been in this cycle for years, when all they want to do is be DAD. Why can they not?

The scourge of false allegations needs to stop, the courts need to act, the system needs to identify the patterns, recognise this as an abuse and see it for what it is - Control and manipulation.

What do we tell these Dads?

The consequence is that the accuser goes on to make multiple false allegations, confident that nothing will happen to them and, critically, slowing the whole system down.

Why do we not have a 3 strikes and you are out rule? Make proven false allegations 3 times and you go to prison for the hurt and distress you have caused not only to your ex partner, but also your children.

IF a solution is found, and implemented, the false allegations would soon stop, the distress to hundreds of children and their dads would be prevented and the entire system speed up under a hugely reduced work load, and everyone involved benefit.

This issue of course applies to mothers not seeing their children also due to false allegations.
