Bring back school snow days in Connecticut

Bring back school snow days in Connecticut

The Issue

Wherever you are in Connecticut, there is a 90% chance that your school district has removed snow days. I am pretty sure that this is for good, but either way, changing all snow days to remote learning is really messed up. One reason is that I find it sad, that my future children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on won't get to experience the magic of a "real snow day." The fact that I will be telling my future kids "back in my day" stories about snow days saddens me. I don't want that to happen. I want future generations to wake up to find out that school is canceled, and the day will be filled with snowball fights with their siblings, building snowmen, and maybe even a little bit of sledding if you live near a hill.

But there's the other side of the coin. We all want a nice long summer. Who doesn't love summer? It can get pretty annoying when you get nine or ten snow days, and then your summer doesn't start until the end of June. So maybe each school year can have a maximum or two or three snow days, and then if we end up getting more, then we could switch to distance learning on snow days.

This petition will be sent to the Connecticut Board of Education if we can get 500 supporters by March 1st, 2021.
