CT Dept of Education: Medically vulnerable families need remote school in 2021-22

The Issue

Petition to Governor Lamont and the Connecticut State Department of Education

We the undersigned call for the Connecticut State Department of Education to create a fully remote option for public school students for the 2021-22 academic year.

Until herd immunity has been achieved, it will not be safe for children with medically vulnerable family members to return to the school building.

We understand that a remote option will be available for 2022-23 to accommodate people who opt not to follow state vaccination mandates (HB 6621), but none will be provided for those who need a remote option due to medical vulnerabilities.

We implore the addition of a state-supported remote education for the 2021-22 academic year.
