Sooke First Pushes Affordable Throup Road Bypass

The Sooke First team is committed to delivering a practical, affordable, and expedited solution for the Throup Road Bypass Project, starting with responsible project spending throughout the remainder of the current council term.
This week (May 22, 2026), Sooke Council learned a borrowing referendum planned for the municipal election ballot since early 2025 is unlikely to go before voters this fall due to planning setbacks.
Sooke First mayoral candidate Kevin Pearson is expressing concern regarding the latest delay on this critical infrastructure project, noting that under the current municipal leadership, necessary right-of-way negotiations that should have been concluded in time for a fall referendum, have in fact been pushed to 2027.
