Connect the Sidewalk on Terry Drake Road – Protect Pedestrians

The Issue

Numerous times, I’ve walked and biked with my three young boys along Terry Drake Road in Huntsville, AL, and when the sidewalk ends at the creek, we’ve had to step into the street. Speeding cars came dangerously close, and it felt like a tragic accident was only inches away. Each time, my kids were scared, and I was left shaken. No family should have to risk their lives just to walk around their own neighborhood.

The sidewalk on Terry Drake Road abruptly ends at the creek near Lathan Drive SE, posing a significant safety hazard for pedestrians. This absence of a complete walkway forces families, children, and everyday walkers to fend for themselves in the street, where cars often speed by, oblivious to the potential danger.

In recent months, there have been several alarming near-misses between vehicles and pedestrians. The current situation is more than inconvenient; it's dangerous and potentially deadly. It’s crucial that we take immediate action to prevent a foreseeable tragedy.

A simple extension of the sidewalk can remedy this significant safety issue. By completing the sidewalk on Terry Drake Road, we can ensure that our neighborhood is safe for all its residents, especially children who walk or cycle to school or visit local parks.

We respectfully urge the City of Huntsville to prioritize the safety of its citizens by allocating the necessary resources to connect the sidewalk along Terry Drake Road.

This small change will drastically improve pedestrian safety and enhance the quality of life in our community.

Please sign this petition to show your support for making our neighborhood a safer place for everyone.
